Jiangsu Holds off Guangsha in Overtime

    Jiangsu Dragons handed over Zhejiang Guangsha the third loss of the season in a 110-106 overtime home victory Wednesday in the Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA).

    Point guard Hu Xuefeng collected 25 points, 10 assists and seven steals to help the Dragons avoid a turnaround after leading as many as 20 points.

    He made four points and dished out two crucial assists when it was tied on 100-100 in the overtime for the ninth win in 10 games for the home team.

    The Dragons were 11-5 on the fifth place of the standings, while the Guangsha fell to 13-3 on the third.

    Five Dragons' players scored over 15 points and they beat Guangsha on the board by 55-45.

    The Dragons led 59-41 on the break but let the Guangsha claw back with a 35-18 run in the third quarter.

    Neither team could make a winning shot after they tied it on 98-98 in the last minute, and the game went back to the starting line on 100 to all with 3:51 minutes to go in the overtime.

    Hu took the control of the game on that breaking point as he put the Dragons ahead on 104-100 with an assist, one steal and two free-throws.

    It was the 6-foot-1 guard again when the Guangsha closed it on 104-103 as he scored and stole again for a 108-103 lead.

    The 17 three-pointers were not good enough for the uprising Shanghai Sharks to topple down the powerhouse Guangdong Hongyuan as the Sharks lost 103-97 on the road.

    But Hongyuan had to work for the victory as they almost squardered a 19-point lead in the fourth quarter when the Sharks outscored them on the 3-pointers.

    Wang Ligang and John Lucas III had six 3-pointers each when the Sharks shot 17-out-of-45, compared to a 4-out-of-22 stats from their opponents.

    Trailing by 79-62 at the end of the third quarter, the Sharks never gave up for a surprise as they closed it on 101-97 down the stretch.

    The Hongyuan held onto the feet for stop the Sharks for a possible seventh straight win.

    Lucas had 32 points and Liu Wei added 19 points for the Sharks.

    In other matches, Liaoning Panpan beat Beijing Ducks 114-95, Xinjiang Guanghui beat Tianjin Ronggang 118-111, Shanxi Zhongyu beat Qingdao Double Stars 113-102, Jilin Northeast Tigers beat Zhejiang Chouzhou 94-84, Bayi Fubang beat Dongguan Marco Polo 92-87, Shandong Gold beat Fujian SBS 114-110.
