The resolution adopted by the European Parliament (EP) on Tibet shows some parliamentarians' amnesia concerning Europe's history and their ignorance of the Chinese autonomous region's current situation.

The bill, raised by some anti-China parliamentarians, ignored the reality in Tibet by urging the Chinese government to "open a constructive dialogue aimed at reaching an overall political agreement," and calling on China to consider "a memorandum on genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people" proposed by the Dalai Lama.

The European politicians have disregarded the fact that it's the Dalai Lama who has never given up his separatist efforts over the past few years while the Chinese government was holding rounds of contacts with great patience and sincerity with his representatives.

They turned a blind eye to the fact that the so-called "memorandum", which in fact advocates Tibet's semi-independence or independence in disguise, serves as a preparation for the Dalai Lama to try to claim full independence of Tibet. The "memorandum" has completely violated the Chinese Constitution, severely harmed the interests of the Chinese people, and been flatly rejected by the Chinese government.

The European parliamentarians should also be aware that saying "yes" to the Dalai Lama's "genuine autonomy" equals voicing support for the restoration of Tibet's feudal serfdom, which brought untold suffering to the serfs and slaves accounting for over 90 percent of the Tibetan population at the time.

Feudal rulers trampled human rights in such a way that it clearly reminds people of the medieval Europe when feudal lords abused their power and mercilessly exploited, tortured and even executed ordinary people, and held back social development.

How could the parliamentarians, the self-claimed "human rights defenders" who should have known their own history well, blame the Chinese government that has been exerting itself in boosting social and human rights development in Tibet?

While posing a number of groundless requests to the Chinese government, the resolution has kept silence to the Dalai clique's activities of separatism aimed at stirring up violence and trying to undermine Tibet's development.

However, some politicians of the EP have clamored for the Dalai Lama's lies about "genuine autonomy" and "cultural autonomy," a move demonstrating that some EP members have already run into a habit of taking whatever the Dalai Lama has unilaterally drummed for.

What's behind the prejudice is their peremptory arrogance in dealing with the developing countries.

Fortunately, not all EP members are caught by the amnesia of their own history and the ignorance of Tibet's dark past. Nirj Deva, a British EP member and also chairman of the EU-China Friendship Group in the EP, is one of them.

"Tibet many years ago was a feudal serfdom with people being owned by other people and the Chinese central government liberated the Tibetan people from feudalism," Deva noted.

Deva urged those EP members to look at the real development in Tibet, criticizing them for still being caught by the fantasy of a "Shangri-la" in Tibet touted by the exiled Dalai Lama.

The Dalai's high-profile visit to the EP last year and the approval of the resolution showed that some European politicians "cooperated surprisingly well" with the Dalai Lama in an attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs and internationalize the issue.

Thomas Mann, a German EP member and head of the EP Tibet Inter group, told representatives of the Dalai Lama last year that the EP would have enough money to support him, a plain instigation for Tibet's split conspiracy.

It is no doubt that some European politicians' meddling in China's domestic affairs concerning Tibet has become an obstacle to a healthy and closer relationship between China and the European Union.

The EP should, by proceeding from the overall situation of the China-EU relations, pay respect for basic norms of the international law, adopt an objective approach to China's history and development including Tibet and stop its support for Dalai's separatist activities, so as to make contributions to the development of China-EU ties.
