An airplane part weighing 60 kilograms has plunged from the sky and hit a manufacturing building in Shanghai's Songjiang District on Monday, Shanghai Morning Post reports.

No fatality has been reported from the incident.

According to East China Regional Administration of Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), the triangle-shaped fallen part has been initially identified as a hatch cover of the main landing gear from a Boeing 777 and is believed to have fallen from an altitude of 1800 meters.

The Civil Aviation Administration authorities are now trying to match the fallen part with possible Boeing airplanes flying over the District Shanghai during that time period.

The cause of the incident is also under investigation.

Experts involved in the civil aviation say losing a part like the hatch cover will not risk the safety of the flight, but can cause damage to facilities and people on the ground.

Fang Zhengyu, a lawyer from a Shanghai law firm says the manufacturing facility on the ground may sue for compensation if the operating airline could be identified.
