[Photo: Nanfang Metropolis Daily] China Mobile has launched a new program to urge its mobile service subscribers to register using their real names. The new program was launched after China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology brought new laws making it mandatory to use one's real name when registering with a mobile service provider. The company has sent reminders to some subscribers to register their mobile phone number along with their real name before the designated deadline. Some subscribers in Guangzhou city in south China's Guangdong province, received massages saying that users failing to register their real name before May 31 will have some of their services stopped. They will not be allowed to make outgoing calls or sending text messages. But receiving calls and messages will be allowed for a short period of time after the deadline. China Mobile says it will send another reminder after the deadline to those who have not yet registered with their real name. But if the subscriber still refuses to complete the registration, the operator will stop all mobile services to that particular number. The company says the deadline for the real name registration will vary for different subscribers, but each user will be notified of the deadline through a text message. It is reported by Nanfang Metropolis Daily that the other two major telecommunications operators in the country, China Unicom and China Telecom, have not enforced the mandatory real name registration requirement so far. Expert says that real name registration for mobile phones will be an effective way to prevent mobile fraud, which costs tens of billions of yuan per year.
