[Photo: CFP] Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing, a Hong Kong born singer, record producer, and screenwriter, had also gained huge successful in his movie career. Cheung rose to prominence as a teen heartthrob and pop icon in Hong Kong in the 1980s, receiving numerous music awards, such as the Most Popular Male Artist Award in 1988 and 1989 and Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards. Besides in the world of Cinema, Cheung won the 1991 Hong Kong Film Award and the 1994 Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award for best actor. He also won the 1994 Japan Film Critics Society Award for best actor for his performance in Farewell My Concubine and ten other best actor nominations, five Golden Horse Awards, three Cannes Film Festival Awards, an Asia Pacific Film Festival Award, and a Venice Film Festival Award. Being one of Asia's most enduring stars, Cheung committed suicide at the age of 46 on April 1, 2003 and left behind a suicide that revealed emotional problems. April 1, 2015 marks the 12th anniversary of the death of singer-actor Leslie Cheung. Many of his fans around China have organized different events to commemorate his death anniversary.
