Sun Zhaoxue, former general manager of Chinalco, China's top aluminum producer, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office following a graft investigation.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) made the announcement on Tuesday. Sun is also former member of the CPC committee of of the state-owned enterprise Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco).

The investigation found that Sun took advantage of his post to seek profits for others and asked for and accepted "a huge amount in bribes." He also committed adultery, said a statement from the CCDI.

Sun seriously violated CPC discipline and is suspected of breaking the law, the statement said.

His case has been handed over to prosecutors, the statement said.

Sun has been under CCDI investigation since September for "suspected serious legal and disciplinary violations."

Sun once served as general manager of the China National Gold Group Corp, the country's biggest gold producer, before taking the post at Chinalco.
