23 baby giraffes from South Africa have resettled in Kunming, in the southwest of China.

    Welcome to China.

Travelling all the way from across the ocean, these baby giraffes are still shy... or maybe still jetlagged.

Nie Hongliang, Keeper of Yunnan Zoo, said, "We use the monitoring camera to keep 24 hour watch on them. We don’t want to be walking in too many times and bothering them."

Chinese class is the first task for these calves every day before breakfast.

"We tell them the breakfast is coming in Chinese. Whether they understand or not, we just speak to them." Nie said.

They also have to adapt to their new cuisine of apple and carrot cubes.

"They have four meals a day. We treat them as we do with babies: having more meals a day but less food for each." Nie said.

The calves should be ready to meet the public in January, after a 45-day quarantine period.
