Four miners have been rescued while another 13 remain trapped underground in northeast China's Jilin Province after a coal mine accident which killed four on Monday, local authorities have announced. As of 7:20 p.m., four of the 17 trapped people have been rescued from the Jisheng Coal Mine in the city of Baishan and sent to hospital, said rescuers. The accident, believed to have been triggered by gas, happened around 6 a.m., according to the local authorities. A total of 116 miners were working underground when the accident occurred, and 95 of them were lifted out of the mine safely. Rescue work for the trapped miners is still under way. The Jilin provincial government has ordered a thorough work safety check in the province. |
