Miss World Fiji 2012, Koini Elesi Vakaloloma will depart the island nation on July 15 to contest the title of Miss World 2012 in Ordos of China's Inner Mongolia, local website Fijivillage reported Monday. This is the second time Fiji will be represented on the stages of the world's oldest and longest surviving beauty pageant. According to the report, as part of the national gift auction to support various charities through Miss World's Beauty with a Purpose program, Miss Fiji will be presenting a unique oil painting done in collaboration with Pacific Studies in house artist at the Oceania Centre in the University of the South Pacific (USP), Tui Lovelace. The painting represents Miss World Fiji's Beauty with a Purpose theme of Mental Health that features original art which signify traditional indigenous Fijian patterns, a turtle and two human figures both signifying the struggles one faces when encountering Mental Health issues like depression. Fiji will be welcomed onto the Miss World stage and will endure a month long tour in China before the crowning of the 62nd Miss World on Aug. 18. Miss World Chairman and CEO, Julia Morley is excited to receive Fiji's representative and has ensured a great time to both learn and make new friends while competing for the Miss World title, according to the Fiji Miss World organizers. Miss Fiji will also highlight as part of her presentation two unique aspects of her country the "Tagimoucia" flower that is only found in Fiji and the heart shaped "Tavarua Island" which recently hosted the Volcom World Surfing Championships. The evening gown, designed and made by Fumaru Fatiaki with inspirations from a 60's styled John Galliano gown will also embody the "Hibiscus" print including black pearls and shells and will be up against 119 other designers from around the World vying for the best designer evening gown award. Miss Fiji's national costume will symbolize the "guardian" or owl, a unique part of the Fijian culture. Koini Vakaloloma will hand over her title to crown her successor in April 2013 where the new crowned queen will represent Fiji at the 63rd Miss World contest in Bali, Indonesia. Castings for 2013 will commence in September this year where a total of 30 finalists will be taken through a Miss World boot camp. Miss World 2011 1st runner up, Gwendoline Ruais from the Philippines will be a guest judge at next year's event including a famous supermodel from London and former Miss World's from India and Venezuela. Tenders for Naming Rights and Sponsorships have been sent out to nominated local business with extensive interests from off shore sponsors in Singapore, the Middle East, South Africa, Los Angeles and South Korea. |
