Officials and experts have been sent to rain-battered Jiangxi province and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to aid in local relief efforts, the Ministry of Civil affairs said Tuesday.

The teams have been sent in the wake of torrential rainstorms that have wreaked havoc in several parts of the country, the ministry said.

Local governments in east China's Jiangxi province have allocated 39.6 million yuan (6.22 million U.S. dollars) to disaster-hit areas and sent quilts, edible oil, rice and instant noodles to the victims, the ministry said.

According to local governments in Jiangxi, 4,000 houses were toppled and 73,400 hectares of farmlands have been affected due to the heavy rains. A total of 136,000 people have been relocated as a result of the disaster.

Torrential rains have also swept south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, killing eight people and resulting in the relocation of 114,700 others as of Monday evening, according to the regional civil affairs bureau.

More than 2,800 homes have been destroyed in the region, the bureau said.
