Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Sunday urged more efforts to promote the sound development of agriculture and rural areas.

The country has entered a crucial time to accelerate the coordinated social and economic development in urban and rural areas, and more attention should be paid to adapt to emerging challenges, Hui said at the China Rural Development Forum.

Hui called for promotion of agriculture technology and modern agriculture to ensure the country's food security and supplies of major farm produces.

He urged relevant authorities to take more efforts to improve people's living standard in rural areas and focus more on increasing farmers' incomes.

He also demanded an escalation of efforts to promote the reform on the country's household registration system, protect farmers' land property rights, and coordinate the development of urban and rural areas for common prosperity.

The two-day forum that ended Sunday attracted over 200 experts and officials on issues concerning farmers, agriculture and rural areas.
