Gale force winds forced passenger shipping services to suspend between Yantai city in east China's Shandong Province and Dalian city in northeast China's Liaoning Province from midday Monday, local maritime authorities have said. Shipping services are expected to resume Tuesday afternoon after winds become weak, according to Yantai Maritime Affairs Administration in Shandong Province. Bohai Strait between Shandong Peninsula and Liaodong Peninsula where the two cities located is forecasted to see winds of up to 100 kilometers per hour from Monday evening to Tuesday, according to Yantai Meteorological Center. The shipping time between the two destinations is six to seven hours, so the suspension is imposed eight hours before the strong wind, according to Yantai Maritime Affairs Administration. Passenger shipping services are banned once the wind speed reaches 50 kilometers per hour, according to Shandong provincial maritime authorities. Bohai Strait, located between the two peninsulas with the shortest distance of 105 kilometers, links the Yellow Sea to the east and the Bohai Sea to the west. |
