The movie is the directorial debut of Zhao Linshan and was written by Wang Bin, the scriptwriter for renowned Chinese director Zhang Yimou in 'Hero', 'The House of Flying Daggers' and 'Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles'.

'Tongquetai' tells the stories of Cao Cao, a renowned warlord and politician during the Three Kingdoms period (208-280 A.D.). The film focuses upon the statesman's military tactics and his love for a young woman - Ling Jv.

Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat plays the leading role of Cao Cao. The film also stars Crystal Liu, Tamaki Hiroshi, Alec Su and Annie Yi.

Now in its post-production stages, 'Tongquetai' is expected to hit cinema screens in October.
