Local-level exchanges and cooperation are important to China-U.S. ties as they cement the basis of bilateral ties and promote the prosperity of the two countries' provinces/states and cities, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official said Tuesday in Austin, Texas.

Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks when meeting with Joe Straus, speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, and a number of congressmen from the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.

Wang discussed with them how to promote China-U.S. ties, enhance exchanges between the CPC and the U.S. parties, and boost mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries' provinces/states and cities, and other issues of common concern.

Wang expressed hope that the two countries can continuously deepen cooperation and build a closer, win-win partnership based on mutual respect.

Straus briefed Wang and his entourage on the political and economic situation in Texas.

Texas has benefited a lot from its cooperation with China, he said, vowing to continue to strengthen friendship with China and work for the healthy and stable development of the U.S.-China relations.

On Tuesday afternoon, Wang met with Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and other Congress members in Kansas City, Missouri.
