Argentina coach Diego Maradona dismissed doubts that Lionel Messi will miss their World Cup quarterfinals against Germany here on Friday.

"Messi just had a slight fever and I decided to give him a break so that he can play against Germany." Maradona explained why Messi missed Argentina's training session.

"The training session is good, lots of stretching."added he, who refused to confirm that their starting lineup of the quarterfinal match against Germany on Saturday will be the same as last match.

When asked about his feelings about meeting Germany in the quarters, Maradona said:"Very good, really smooth. We will play excellent match tomorrow and we'll move on to next difficult match and try to win as what we do tomorrow."

Maradona didn't care what opponents have done, saying that they were exclusively focused on their team.

"We work hard at every match so that we can progress as much as possible," Maradona stressed."From historical point of view, Germany have always played good matches against Argentina."

Germany, who topped Group D, made to the last eight for the 15th time in a row and proved to be another sparkling side in the World Cup.

The two sides have met five times before in the tournament's history, with three wins, one draw and one loss going to the Germans.

Argentina advanced to the quarters after three wins in the group stage and a 3-1 victory over Mexico in the Round of 16, but Maradona would not say they are hot favourite for the champions.

"No, we don't feel like hot favourites. We have to play our football." he said.

For twenty years, Argentina have not gone beyond the quarters in the World Cup.

Maradona said he will tell his players to live their life on the pitch. "Behind them is a whole country." he said.
