LEAD: Thirty six museums in Jilin Province are now open to visitors free of charge, this is according to the provincial cultural department.

STORYLINE: Jilin Province began to open some of its museums free of charges in 2008, thanks to the subsidies provided by the Chinese central government. According to the provincial cultural department, the museums improved their services and put more exhibits on display in order to attract more visitors.

China's northeastern Jilin Province has a total of 72 museums, 36 of which require no admission fees now. It is estimated that 600,000 visitors conducted free museum tours last year.

In 2010, Jilin province will make more museums free of charge and hope to attract more people.
