Doctoral Supervisor / Professor Harbin Institute of Technology

Born in 1928 in Xi’an City, Shanxi Province, Mr. Lei graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Northwest Institute of Technology in 1949, and he furthered his study in Harbin Institute of Technology in 1951 and worked there after studying. Rated as professor and doctoral supervisor, he was selected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997. He was an expert in Materials Science and Heat Treatment in China. As a founder of the Thermo-Mechanical Treatment theory and application , he had many discoveries in a number of new aspects such as the reformatted metal dynamic recrystallization, the formation of sub-organism and strengthening mechanism, which were all put into application. He also set a new field in chemical treatment deformation in the world. He took the lead in China in duplex stainless steel and duplex heat treatment research, firstly discovered the duplex hardening and softening phenomenon. He introduced a series of new viewpoints on the duplex microstructure of the deformation and fracture behavior, and the duplex steel’s strength theory and its practical application and so on which aroused attention of international academic circle.
