Liu Yongtan was born in Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province in 1936. From 1953 to 1958, he successively studied in the Electrical Engineering Department at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), and Department of Radio & Electronics at Tsinghua University. Currently the Honorary Director of the Institute of Electronic Engineering Technology, the Dean of the Graduate School, and a professor as well as a doctoral supervisor in HIT, Mr. Liu is also a member of the Discipline Accreditation Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, a member of the Academic Committee in the Chinese Institute of Electronics, a senior staff in IEEE and others. He was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991, and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1994.An expert in radar and signal processing technology in China, he has devoted himself to teaching and research works. He has successfully done great things such as the systematical research especially on the new radar systems, the guidance and signal processing technology, and has developed an integrated radar system, contributing to the establishment of the Chinese latest radar system station that its technical indicators have reached the international advanced level.
