China's national observatory issued a blue alert Saturday for heavy rain in a vast part of southern and southwest China. From Saturday night to Sunday night, heavy rain is expected to hit many southern and southwestern regions, including the provinces of Guizhou, Hunan, Guangdong and Yunnan, Tibet Autonomous Region and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said Saturday. Some areas in Guangdong, Guangxi and Tibet will be hit by up to 150 mm of rainfall within 24 hours. Heavy rain will also be accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds and hailstones in some of the affected regions, the NMC said. The center advised local governments to guard against possible flooding, landslides and mudslides, and halt outdoor operations. China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue. |
