Haitong Securities Co., Ltd. posted a 117.66 percent year-on-year growth in net profit for the first quarter of 2019 amid a stock market rally.

In a filing to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the Shanghai-based securities brokerage said net profit in the Jan.-March period surged to 3.77 billion yuan (about 563 million U.S. dollars) from 1.73 billion yuan in the same period last year.

Revenue soared 74.5 percent year on year to 9.95 billion yuan.

In the first three months, China's stock markets made a strong rebound, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rising 23.9 percent and the Shenzhen Component Index rallying at 36.8 percent.
