Taiwan's industrial production index for January fell 1.86 percent from a year earlier to 106.55 after a 1.22 percent year-on-year decline in December, according to the island's economic affairs authority Tuesday.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in January went down 3.57 percent from the previous month, the authority said in a statement.

The sub-index for the manufacturing sector, which accounts for more than 90 percent of total industrial production, dropped 1.92 percent year-on-year to 107.43 in January.

The production index for electronic components, the most heavily weighted in the manufacturing sector, plummeted 6.92 percent compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's wholesale revenue rose 2.2 percent year-on-year in January to 905.5 billion new Taiwan dollars (29.42 billion U.S. dollars), it said.

Retail revenue edged up 7.1 percent to 388.9 billion new Taiwan dollars in January, while the catering sector jumped 8.4 percent to 41.6 billion new Taiwan dollars.
