The average life expectancy of Shanghai's population on registration reached 83.63 years in 2018, according to Shanghai Municipal Health Commission Thursday.

The average life expectancy for men was 81.25 years while that for women was 86.08 years in the city.

The infant mortality rate was 3.52 per thousand, while the maternal mortality stood at 1.15 per 100,000 last year, according to the commission.

In 2019, Shanghai will focus on the construction of its community health service system backed up by general practitioner services to further improve residents' health conditions, said Wu Jinglei, director of the commission.
