Seoul, capital of the Republic of Korea, was the most popular overseas destination for Chinese Douyin users last year, a report from the leading short video platform revealed.

Following Seoul were Vietnam's Nha Trang, Singapore, Dubai and Thailand's Pattaya. Douyin, also known as Tik Tok, gathered the information after tracking 260 million visits marked via the app by Chinese users in 233 countries and regions in 2018.

Beijing was the most popular domestic city, followed by Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding took the crown as the most visited domestic scenic spot, with the animals popular subjects for short videos.

The social media upstart teamed up with several cities such as Xi'an and Chongqing in tourism promotion last year.

The report also showed usage preferences of different generations, with post-90s users fond of taking selfies and post-60s users enjoying recording their children's lives.

Douyin reported over 500 million monthly active users and 250 million daily active users as of last December. It was the most downloaded social media app on iOS last year, according to mobile app data analysis firm Sensor Tower.
