Chinese stocks closed lower on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.14 percent at 2,575.81 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.27 percent lower at 7,615.91 points.

The combined turnover of stocks included in the two indices stood at 254 billion yuan (36.57 billion U.S. dollars), down from 358.5 billion yuan recorded on the previous trading day.

Stocks related with southern China's Fujian province rallied. Zhongfu Straits (Pingtan) Development Co., Ltd. rose by its daily limit of 10 percent to 3.26 yuan. Fujian Zhangzhou Development Co., Ltd. increased by its daily limit of 10 percent to 3.22 yuan.

The People's Insurance Company (Group) of China Ltd. lost 7.24 percent to 7.18 yuan.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, lost 0.32 percent to close at 1,304.56 points.
