Beijing police have put 112 people in criminal detention since a campaign against gun and explosive-related crimes started in February. As 45 cases were uncovered, more than 560 guns and more than 550 replica guns were confiscated. More than 70,000 bullets, 5,400 knives and 4,500 pieces of explosives were found, according to Beijing's municipal public security bureau. While launching a crackdown, Beijing authorities also issued a notice, informing the public about the dangers of such items, and urging the public to voluntarily hand in guns and replicas. Firearms are tightly controlled in China, and those that hide related items face severe punishment. |
