China's procuratorates filed 1,314 public interest litigations on environment and resource protection from January to October, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Thursday. During the same period, procuratorates across the country approved the arrest of 3,559 suspects of crimes related to environment pollution and another 8,459 of crimes related to resource damage. By working with judicial and law enforcement authorities, the procuratorates explored diversified mechanisms for ecological compensation in handling criminal cases. They pushed forward the restoration of 1.86 million mu (124,267 hectares) of damaged forests, farmland, grassland and wetland, as well as the clean-up of 1.24 million mu (82,600 hectares) of polluted water resources, the SPP said. |
