Wang Tie, a former senior legislator in central China's Henan Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office over serious violations of discipline and law, according to a statement by the top anti-graft body Monday.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission conducted an investigation into Wang, former deputy Party secretary of the Standing Committee of Henan Provincial People's Congress and vice head of the Standing Committee of Henan Provincial People's Congress.

The probe found that Wang conducted vote buying and canvassing in elections, a serious violation of the Party's political code of conduct and rules.

Other offenses included refusing to report personal matters to authorities, taking advantage of his posts to assist relatives in business, and accepting money and gifts.

"As a senior official of the CPC, Wang lost his commitment to Party principles and sought personal benefits through his positions. The case should be dealt with seriously," the statement said.

Since that Wang turned himself in, gave back his illicit gains and showed sincere remorse, the CCDI proposed a lenient punishment.
