Chinese police detain 1,118 suspected ticket scalpers

Chinese railway police said Thursday that 1,118 suspects were arrested in a national campaign against ticket scalping starting Aug. 29.

Around 18,000 tickets, including over 2,000 counterfeit ones, have been confiscated, with 1,008 cases solved, police said in a statement.

Police have increased their patrols around railway stations to fight against ticket scalping activities. In one case, 10 suspected scalpers were arrested in Beijing, with 578 tickets confiscated.

Authorities are also targeting the illegal production and sale of fake tickets, ID certificates, and stamps. In another case in Foshan, south China's Guangdong Province, police caught a suspect surnamed Li and found over 2,000 fake stamps in Li's living place.

Ticket scalping and counterfeiting are major problems around public holidays as the demand for tickets is high.

With the National Day holiday from Oct. 1 to 7 approaching, railway police have vowed to further crack down on such illegal activities.
