Four people were killed and another 19 were injured in a traffic accident in Nanning, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Thursday morning, according to local police.

The accident happened around 11:39 a.m. when a minivan suffered brake failure on Taoyuan Road, police said.

Six of the injured are in critical conditions. The driver is in police custody.

Further investigation is under way into the cause of the accident.
