A Singaporean woman who suffered a brain hemorrhage flew home onboard an medical plane early Sunday, after receiving a successful surgery in northwest China's Qinghai Province, a hospital source said.

Customs at the Xining airport opened a green channel for Tham May Kuen and her family.

Tham, 56, arrived in Qinghai on July 20 with more than 30 others to volunteer at a monastery in Nangqen County, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

On July 24, she suffered a stroke and fell into a coma. She was immediately sent to a local hospital for treatment, said Shen Mi, deputy director of medical affairs at Qinghai Red Cross Hospital.

On the same day, she was transferred to the Red Cross Hospital in the provincial capital Xining via a plane rented by the hospital. An emergency team ensured the safe transfer of the patient, Shen said.

Tham underwent brain surgery at the hospital on July 25 and has been recovering well, according to Shen.
