Shenyang, capital of northeast China's Liaoning Province, on Thursday experienced its hottest day on record since 1951 as the temperature reached 38.4 degrees Celsius.

The temperature was recorded at 3:48 p.m., exceeding the previous high of 38.3 degrees Celsius on July 18, 1952, according to the city meteorological bureau.

The city started to keep complete weather records in 1951. Records show hottest days usually occur in June or July.
