U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower on Monday, with nine of the 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note. Shares of TAL Education Group and SINA Corp., dropped 5.03 percent and 3.38 percent, respectively, leading the laggards in the top 10 stocks of the index. Shares of BeiGene, Ltd. rose 6.31 percent, the only gainer in the top 10 stocks. U.S. stocks closed lower as tech shares tumbled, dragging the market. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 144.23 points, or 0.57 percent, to 25,306.83. The S&P 500 decreased 16.22 points, or 0.58 percent, to 2,802.60. The Nasdaq Composite Index declined 107.42 points, or 1.39 percent, to 7,630.00. The Cboe Volatility index, widely considered the best fear gauge in the stock market, increased 9.44 percent to 14.26 on Monday. As of Friday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 3,229.41, marking a 0.93-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 4.48-percent gain for the year-to-date returns. |
