The National Center for the Performing Arts, China's prime theater, will stage drama "Scenes De La Vie Conjugale" from Tuesday to Wednesday. The play is a French adaptation of Ingmar Bergman's classic film "Scenes from a Marriage," which focuses on intimacy and the slow disintegration of conjugal bonds. In 1973, Bergman and Liv Ullmann finally broke up despite their marriage bonds that had lasted for years. Later, Bergman spent several months screenwriting to describe a couple's life over more than two decades, finally filming "Scenes from a Marriage." The lovers not only attract and become weary of each other, but also feel desirous, disgusted and ultimately betrayed. The lies, compromise, isolation and despair behind the betrayal is slowly revealed. The adaptation is in French with Chinese subtitles. |
