每个人都有一所“自己能骂，别人不能说”的母校，说起母校来，吐槽和感情都是滔滔不绝，但是该怎么用英文聊呢？

不少人顾名思义，灵机一动就说mother school，毕竟祖国是motherland、mother country，母校这么说貌似也没错~虽然…但是千万不要这么说！

母校的正确打开方式是Alma mater，没错，它看起来不太像英语，因为是起源于拉丁语的表达，复数(很少用)是almae matres。

它表示“大学，学院”，主要是美式英语用法，用来指称已经从中毕业的院校或与学校相关的歌曲和赞美诗。

In English, this is largely a U.S. usage referring to a school or university from which an individual has graduated or to a song or hymn associated with a school.

这个短语有不同译法，可以是“乳母”或“养母”，表明学校向学生提供知识(智力滋养)。

除此之外，母校还可以用one's old school表示。
