Wang Yang, top political advisor and senior Party official, met a delegation from Taiwan-based United Daily News Group here Thursday. The current cross-Strait relations remain complicated and difficult, said Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), at the meeting. The mainland upholds the 1992 Consensus, which embodies the one-China principle, and works for peaceful development of the cross-Strait relations and peaceful reunification of the motherland, Wang said. The mainland will continue to expand cooperation and exchanges between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait and share its development opportunities with Taiwanese compatriots, Wang said. He stressed that the mainland firmly opposes and contains any attempts at Taiwan independence. Wang said he hopes that the United Daily News Group will continue to be a responsible media organization, deliver constructive messages, speak against Taiwan independence and promote mutual understanding, from the perspective of the interest of the whole Chinese nation. |
