A unified emergency response platform for the aged has been proposed for China's pilot program on smart home-based elderly care.

The platform, together with an information sharing platform, will be able to provide services including health management, safety monitoring, emergence response and precise medical care, according to a solution plan released Saturday.

The plan was developed by a research group led by Hualing Center on Smart Elderly Care, a Beijing-based NGO.

The system in based on the Internet of Things, big data and intelligent detection technology, said Zhu Yongjie, director of Hualing.

China has pledged to built 500 model communities with smart home-based elderly care by 2020 when the country's elderly population is expected to reach 255 million.
