Torrential rain has drenched east China's Jiangxi Province, with another three rounds forecast for June, authorities said Thursday. The rain has hit 230 townships in 29 counties, cities or districts in Jiangxi, destroying 22 houses and damaging 21,000 hectares of crops, according to the provincial headquarters of flood control and disaster relief. Direct economic losses have reached 163 million yuan (24 million U.S. dollars), the headquarters said in a statement. Weather forecasts predict another three rounds of heavy rain this month, which could pose a risk for flooding as water levels in local rivers and reservoirs have already risen. |
