Yu Haiyan, former vice governor of northwest China's Gansu Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for serious disciplinary offenses.

Yu was found to "completely lack political beliefs," as well as to have severely violated the Party's code of conduct and rules and to have long abused his power to seek huge profits for himself and others, according to a statement from the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) on Sunday.

The CCDI said that not only had Chen refused to cooperate in the Party's investigation into his case, he had also traded power for sex and used public funds for his own recreational activities.

The CPC Central Committee has approved his expulsion from the Party.

His illegal gains will be confiscated and the case will be transferred to judicial organs for investigation into his suspected crimes, the CCDI statement said.
