Li Chengyun, former vice governor of southwest China's Sichuan Province, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for accepting bribes totaling over 6.36 million yuan (around 933,800 U.S. dollars) Wednesday.

The sentence was handed down by the Intermediate People's Court of Liupanshui city in southwest China's Guizhou Province.

The court also fined Li 600,000 yuan and ordered his illicit gains to be confiscated.

Li was found guilty of taking advantage of his position to help entities and individuals in land acquisition and construction projects between 2001 and 2015, it said.

The court issued a lenient punishment as Li admitted to his crimes, surrendered all illicit gains and provided information about crimes committed by others.
