China reports 2,404 fires during Dragon Boat Festival

A total of 2,404 fires broke out from Sunday to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, killing six, according to the statistics from the Ministry of Public Security.

No severe fires in which more than three people were killed were reported.

Fire control bureaus nationwide enhanced their inspection of highrises, subways, scenic spots and shopping malls to identify fire hazards and prevent major fires during the Dragon Boat Festival, from May 28 to 30.

About 12,400 inspection teams spotted over 71,800 fire hazards during the festival and 234 organizations were required to suspend production, said the Ministry.
