The standing committee of the people's congress of east China's Zhejiang Province has approved a new regulation to better protect Nanhu Lake, where the Communist Party of China (CPC) held its first national congress in 1921, local authorities said Tuesday.

On Thursday, the regulation approved aims to strengthen protection of both the site for the first National Congress of the Party and the Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall.

The natural landscape and cultural tourism resources around Nanhu Lake as well as the water quality and eco-system of the lake will be under protection. Sports and other water recreation on the lake such as swimming, fishing, and surfing will be banned, according to the regulation.

The regulation will take effect from July 1.
