China is helping in renovation of a major hospital in Myanmar's economic hub Yangon.

The Bahan Women's Hospital, formerly named after Khin Kyi, Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi's late mother, is a publicly-funded hospital.

At the groundbreaking ceremony held on Tuesday, Madame Wang Xuehong, the wife of the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, said Bahan Women's Hospital will be transformed into a fully equipped and functional obstetrics and gynecology hospital with outpatient and inpatient services, as well as delivery rooms and surgery rooms.

China will also provide training for doctors and nurses at the hospital. When the project is completed, Bahan Women's hospital will become the first China-Myanmar friendship hospital.
