The former official was sentenced by the Xiamen Municipal Intermediate People's Court in southeast China's Fujian Province. The court announced the verdict publicly, adding that around 2 million yuan, or around 291,000 U.S. dollars, of Zhou's personal assets, would be confiscated. According to the verdict, Zhou sought illegal interests for others and accepted a huge amount of assets by taking advantage of his posts as the chief of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shaoyang Municipal Committee, a member of the standing committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, Secretary General of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of CPC Central Committee and the Party chief of Hebei Province. From 2000 to 2015, Zhou, both by himself and through his family members, accepted money and other illegal assets worth 40.01 million yuan, or 5.83 million US dollars. |
