Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message to Turkmenistan's incumbent President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on Monday to congratulate him on re-election as the country's head of state.

Xi said in the message that he attaches great importance to the development of China-Turkmenistan relations and cherishes the sincere friendship between Berdymukhamedov and him.

Xi also said that he would work with Berdymukhamedov to keep promoting the China-Turkmenistan strategic partnership to higher levels in the interest of the two countries and the two peoples.

Xi believed that Turkmenistan will keep achieving new successes in the cause of national construction under Berdymukhamedov's leadership.

Berdymukhamedov secured his third term in Sunday's presidential election with a landslide victory, according to preliminary data released on Monday by the country's Central Election Commission.
