The Philippines is to provide a visa-on-arrival facility to Chinese tourists during 2017, according to Wanda Corazon Teo, the Secretary of the Philippines' Department of Tourism, quoted by Zaobao.com.

The Philippines is aiming to attract one million Chinese tourists to the country in 2017. Besides making it easier for Chinese tourists to get visas, the Philippines is planning to stage more tourism promotions tailored to Chinese tourists, plus increase the number of charter flights from China to the Philippines.

During the Spring Festival this year, about 50,000 to 60,000 Chinese tourists traveled to the Philippines, a 50-percent increase on the year before.

According to official data recently issued by the Philippines' Department of Tourism, China had replaced Japan as the third largest source of tourists in 2016, coming after South Korea and the U.S.

In 2016, a total of 675,700 Chinese tourists visited the Philippines, a 37.7 percent increase on last year.
