A catch-fence along a building site in Shanghai has recently been turned to a gallery, with flashing lights sparkling at night fall and 28 pieces of lotus-themed photographic works displayed.

It's reported that the building site is located at the city's No.8 Hengshan Road, Xuhui District. The fence, 100-meter-long and 4.3-meter-tall, was divided into 28 grids, with an artistic work placed in each one.

"We will change the photographic works regularly, so citizens can appreciate works of different styles," a staff member at the building site told thepaper.cn.

"As it is located within the historic conservation area, turning the catch-fence to an open gallery is also a protection of the whole historic area. It's a kind of innovation." said Wang Anshi, member of the Shanghai Committee for the Protection of Historic Conservation Areas and Excellent Historical Buildings.

It not only matches the general view of the historic conservation area, but also brings artistic enjoyment to citizens, added Wang.

As planned, those lotus-themed works will be replaced by iron craft-themed ones, showing the life styles of western nobles, reports thepaper.cn.
