[File photo: Baidu] It has been confirmed that the family of a man wrongfully convicted and executed in a decades-old rape and murder in China is applying for state compensation. The family of Nie Shubin is asking for a compensation of almost 14 million yuan, roughly 2 million US dollars. Nie was exonerated earlier this month after years of review by the Supreme People's Court. The rape and murder case was overturned more than two decades after the defendant was executed. The provincial court where the original decision was made has pledged to investigate allegations of judicial misconduct. |
