![]() People harvest ice on a section of the Songhua River in Harbin, capital city of northeast China's Heilongjiang province, on Friday, December 9, 2016. Hundreds of farmers living near the city come to harvest ice for around 20 days every winter and earn about 200 to 300 yuan (around 29 to 43 US dollars) per person per day. These ice cubes, about 1.6 meters long, 0.8 meters wide and 0.4 meters thick, are harvested for building ice sculptures of the Harbin Ice-Snow World, a popular winter attraction featuring colorful illuminated ice and snow sculptures, as well as cultural activities and winter sports. It is estimated that over 300,000 cubes will be needed for the 180,000 cubic meters ice consumption in the attraction. [Photo: Xinhua] |
