[File photo: baidu.com] Beijing authorities plan to build 1,300 aged care community centers after many daycare centers for seniors have been abandoned, Beijing Morning Post reported on Monday. In 2009, daycare centers experienced rapid development in Beijing with 2,000 being built that year. Now only 70 remain due to the lack of financial support, monotonous service and imbalanced distribution within the city. The aged care community centers will be funded by the government and run by professional aged care companies. Local neighborhood and village committees will be responsible for introducing the services to the elderly people in their area. The fees will be lower than the market price and if someone has no income or offspring, services will be offered without a fee. Beijing authorities have been carrying out a census looking for idle resources in the city's communities. The results are expected to be released at the end of the year. Through integrating and utilizing idle resources, 1,300 aged care community centers will be built in the next few years. The city's civil affairs authority is also working with the Beijing Disabled Persons' Federation to incorporate help centers for disabled persons within the aged care community centers. Besides daycare, the community centers will provide services like health instructions, entertainment and psychological counseling. The service radius of community centers for elderly care must be less than 1,000 meters and only environmental friendly construction materials are to be used, says the civil affairs authority in Beijing.
