[Photo: sina.com] A public transport company in southern China's Fuzhou city launched taxi and car-rental services exclusively for the city's civil servants and their families. A total of 100 taxis are now available around the city. The move comes following China's nationwide anti-waste campaign, which was launched by the country's central authorities aiming to standardize fund management and ban Party and government extravagance. The government has banned official cars for general use and has only kept "necessary" official vehicles for law enforcement, emergency services, special and technical needs, and other uses under the stipulation. A staff member at the company said the services are only available for the civil servants in lieu of the retraction of most official cars in the city, and as a convenience to them. The taxies are customized for the city's civil servants offering services for their daily use and comfort. Some of the taxies wait near the city's municipal office building to serve them quickly and conveniently. Civil servants in the city are able to order the services over the phone and taxis are dispatched to designated locations within 30 minutes. The starting fare for the taxis is 15 yuan for three kilometers. The services are also available to family members of civil servants with proper identification that must be shown before getting in the taxis. Civil servants can also enjoy discounts of up to 20 percent-off for personal travel.
